When is a Penis Classified as a Micro Penis

August 25, 2007 – 12:09 pm

Micropenis” is a condition which impacts the lives of less than one percent of the male population world wide. However the emotional and psychological effects of this condition are anything but Micro. It leaves men feeling emotionally depressed, self-conscious, unconfident and inadequate both their personal as well as their sex lives. A penis is classified by medical professionals as being small and term micropenis when the flaccid length is below 2 cm or newborn bay boys and less than 4cm for male adults. The condition is diagnosed shortly after birth, just as the rest of the perineum, scrotum and penis are fully formed and there could be no doubt about size

One of the prominent causes of micropenis is low production of prenatal androgen (sex hormone responsible for the development of male sex organs) the lack of this hormone leads to underdeveloped sex organs. Other potential causes are a deficiency in the fetus’ ability to synthesize the hormones testosterone and dihydrotestosterone or congenital growth hormone deficiency or inadequate stimulation of the pituitary gland. Despite the causes the condition itself has a negative impact on male self-esteem, confidence and host of other factors in the male psyche.

Although men suffering from this condition do not have a problem reproducing, intercourse is quite difficult and therefore meeting one of the most basic needs of women “sexual pleasure”. Another difficulty encountered by men with a micropenis is awkwardness of urinating in the standing position; some may have to resort to sitting. While one can mange, both situations can be very demeaning and embarrassing.

Treatment for MicroPenis

Over the years various methods have been invented to deal with micropenis condition, some crude and other quite inventive and effective. One of the crudest methods developed to treat this condition has to be penis surgery; for the simple reason that it is unpredictable, dangerous, and very expensive and yields very little results. In fact I was reading an article not long ago on BBC stating that the average gain from penis enlargement surgery was ¼ ” and that most of the men were extremely disappointed with the results.

A more effective method of treating micropenis is by using a traction device. The advantage of this method over surgery is that is very inexpensive, convenient, safe and makes gains of up to 3 inches possible. The downside of this of course is that it takes longer than surgery to see results but well worth it. Most men report the biggest gains to penis size are make within the first 6 weeks (1- 1 ½ “).

Yet another method of treating micro penis or small penis is the use of exercises specifically designed to increase penis length and girth. The success of the penis health exercise program clearly demonstrates that men find this method to be extremely effective and very appealing. The main reason behind its appeal is the simplicity of use, privacy, and results.

The key to finding the right treatment for you is to determine whether the condition actually exists. If you feel you suffer from micropenis, the first thing to do is speak with your urologist or GP. Once the condition is confirmed then weigh you options carefully especially if you are considering surgery; as there is no going back.
